Our Story

A love worth every mile

Seattle, 2016

Pike Place

Our first date was at Pike Place Market while Chris was in Seattle on a work study. Something clicked right away, and by the end of the night neither of us wanted it to be over.

2016 – 2019

Three Years, Two Time Zones

Chris went back to Cuernavaca, Mexico to finish her PhD while Jimmy stayed in Seattle. We racked up a lot of frequent flyer miles and even more FaceTime hours. It wasn't easy, but it was always worth it.

2019

Same City, Finally

Chris finished her PhD and moved to Seattle. No more countdowns to the next visit. Just the two of us figuring out everyday life together, which turned out to be the best part.

The Pack

Three Dogs

Somewhere along the way we ended up with three dogs, each one with more personality than the last. They've completely destroyed our yard and we wouldn't have it any other way.

The Question(s)

Three Proposals

Jimmy proposed in front of the Eiffel Tower with a mariachi band. Then again at Pike Place, where it all started. And once more in the San Juan Islands, just to be thorough. Chris said yes every time.

Travel & Accommodation

Everything you need to plan your trip to San Miguel de Allende

Getting There

San Miguel de Allende does not have its own airport. We recommend flying into Queretaro International Airport (QRO), which is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes away and is the closest option.

From Seattle (SEA): No direct flights, but Aeromexico offers convenient one-stop connections through Mexico City (CDMX). Flight time is approximately 7-8 hours with the layover.

Direct flights to QRO are available from several US cities: Dallas-Fort Worth (American, Volaris, VivaAerobus), Houston (United, Volaris, VivaAerobus), Chicago (American, Volaris), Los Angeles (Volaris), Denver (Volaris), Atlanta (Aeromexico), Detroit (Aeromexico), Orlando (Volaris), and San Antonio (VivaAerobus, Volaris).

Connecting through Mexico City (CDMX): Aeromexico operates multiple daily flights from MEX to QRO (about 1 hour). This is a great option if you're coming from a city without a direct QRO route.

Private shuttle and Uber services are available from QRO to San Miguel de Allende.

Getting Around

San Miguel de Allende's historic center is very walkable, though the streets are narrow and paved with cobblestone. We do not recommend renting a car. Parking is limited and the streets are tight. Uber is readily available and affordable for getting around town and to/from the airport. For guests with limited mobility, we recommend bringing a walking cane as the cobblestone streets can be uneven.

Passport & Visa Info

US citizens need a valid passport to enter Mexico (no visa required for stays under 180 days). Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates. For guests traveling from other countries, please check Mexico's visa requirements for your nationality.

Our travel guide covers everything you need for your trip: where to stay, local essentials like currency and altitude tips, our favorite restaurants, and the best things to do in San Miguel de Allende.
